Information for Specific Groups

Fine Arts lessons
A summer school student taking only one hour of voice or instrument lessons is not required to attend chapel.


PGS students
Graduate students taking only one course as a post graduate special student and not working on a degree are exempt from chapel.

A graduate working on a degree–taking one ore more graduate courses or taking undergraduate courses to work off deficiencies–comes under normal chapel-attendance policies.


Seminary Partnership Program
This program is for students in the Seminary or Graduate School of Religion who are involved in full-time Christian ministry or otherwise employed full time.  Applicants for the Seminary Partnership Program need to complete an online application and be approved by the Seminary.  They may take no more than 3 credit hours in a summer session.

Those in the Seminary Partnership Program are exempt from all non-academic attendance requirements with the exception that students taking daytime classes who did not gradaute from BJU will be required to attend chapel one day per week.

Students in the Seminary Partnership Program who are exempt from chapel may study in the library or the seminary building during chapel.

Expectations for Seminary Partnership students in regard to classroom deportment and class attendance are the same as for other graduate students.


Auditing a course does not negate a student’s chapel requirement.


Senior citizens
Senior citizens (age 65 or older) who are members of the BJU Alumni Association may take classes in residence for half price.  Classes may be audited or taken for credit.  There are no additional attendance requirements.

Dissertation research
PhD students taking only 1 hour of dissertation research are exempt from all non-academic attendance requirements and may study in the library or the seminary building during chapel.

High school students taking university classes
A local high school student (non-BJA) taking a university class in residence is exempt from all non-academic attendance requirements.  A BJA student taking university classes will be expected to attend chapel and other programs according to BJA requirements.
