Michael Johannes Receives Carl A. Spaatz Award

GREENVILLE, S.C. (April 5, 2018) – Cadet Colonel Michael Johannes, a sophomore computer science major at Bob Jones University, was recently presented the Carl A. Spaatz Award by Georgia Governor Nathan Deal at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta.

Instituted by the Civil Air Patrol in 1964, the Carol A. Spaatz Award is the highest achievement in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program and is presented to cadets who have demonstrated excellence in leadership, aerospace, fitness and character. Less than one-half of one percent of cadets have earned this recognition in the award’s history.

Johannes, a resident of Seneca, South Carolina, has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since 2011, during which time he has served as Flight Sergeant, Flight Commander, Admin Officer, and Cadet Commander. Johannes currently serves as Vice Chair on the Southeast Region’s Cadet Advisory Council and as the Region’s Assistant Representative to the National Cadet Council.

“We are very proud of Michael and his prestigious accomplishments,” said BJU President Steve Pettit. “Michael embodies the core qualities that we promote here at BJU, and we are thrilled that he has been recognized in this way.”

In addition, Johannes will represent the United States this summer in the United Kingdom as part of the International Air Cadet Exchange Program.
