Dr. Wencong Lai to Serve as Assistant Professor of Engineering at BJU

GREENVILLE, S.C. (January 8, 2018) – Dr. Wencong Lai will serve as assistant professor in Bob Jones University’s department of engineering in the Division of Natural Science in the College of Arts and Science beginning in the spring 2018 semester.

“We are greatly looking forward to Dr. Lai’s joining the engineering faculty this semester,” said Dr. Renae Wentworth, dean of the College of Arts and Science. “Our students will benefit immensely from Dr. Lai’s knowledge and expertise, as well as from his extensive research experience.”

Lai earned a BE (2008) in water conservancy and hydropower engineering from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China and both an MS (2010) and PhD (2012) in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina.

Lai previously served as a teaching assistant, research assistant and post-doctoral fellow at Clemson University as well as a post-doctoral research associate at the University of Wyoming.

Dr. Lai has made several conference presentations and co-authored numerous publications including a book in 2014 titled Modeling Shallow Water Flows Using the Discontinuous Galerkin Method (CRC Press). He is a member of the American Geophysical Union and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

“I am excited about this new chapter of life at BJU and the opportunities to serve on a campus committed to academic and spiritual development,” said Dr. Lai.

Dr. Lai and his wife Tingting welcomed twin daughters in August and currently live in Central, South Carolina.

BJU offers a BS in engineering with three concentrations: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer engineering. Approximately 100 students are currently enrolled in the program.
