Anne Nguyen Participates in Plumeria Research Project

Anne Nguyen

GREENVILLE, S.C. (August 24, 2017) – Anne Nguyen, a sophomore premed major at Bob Jones University, participated this summer in a pilot research project at BJU. The project was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Robert Lee of the BJU Chemistry Department and Dr. Vincenzo Antignani of the BJU Department of Biology in the Division of Natural Sciences.

A resident of Taylors, Nguyen investigated methods to extract compounds from the leaves of a plumeria tree, a plant largely used in traditional medicine. Primarily, Nguyen’s responsibilities included exploring a variety of extraction methods, performing chemical tests, and recording her findings.

“Overall, this experience was fun, challenging, and thought-provoking and proved extremely profitable to me,” said Nguyen. “This summer, I learned how important it is to ask for help and work as a team. The higher level thinking required for this experience challenged me to work smarter and allowed me to experience the world of research. The logic I developed and the problem solving skills I practiced will greatly help me in my future career.”
