Moore Places Second in The American Prize Competition

GREENVILLE, S.C. (March 21, 2017) – Dr. Michael Moore was named second place winner for The American Prize in Conducting: College/University Division for Opera/Music Theater for 2016-2017. In consideration for the award, Moore submitted the University’s production of La Cenerentola which he conducted in March 2016.

“We are very excited about the national recognition Dr. Moore has received for his conducting of BJU’s La Cenerentola production,” said Dr. Darren Lawson, dean of the School of Fine Arts and Communication at Bob Jones University. “He is a superb conductor, teacher, and musician.”

Moore serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Music Education at BJU and is conductor of both the BJU Symphony Orchestra and Fountain Inn Symphony Orchestra. He holds a PhD in Music Education and a MMus in Instrumental Conducting from the University of South Carolina, as well as a MEd in Music Education and a BS in Music Education from BJU.

Moore completed additional study with Richard Grunow of the Eastman School of Music and holds certificates in Instrumental Music and Early Childhood Music from the Gordon Institute of Music Learning.

A native of Greenville, he founded the Greenville Textile Heritage Band in 2007 to celebrate South Carolina’s rich tradition of mill village bands and their contribution to the growth of school bands across the state. He and his wife, Dr. Deanna C. Moore, Professor of Piano at BJU and president of the South Carolina Music Teachers Association, are proud parents of four budding musicians.

The American Prize is a series of non-profit national competitions in the performing arts providing cash awards, professional adjudication and regional, national and international recognition for the best recorded performances by ensembles and individuals each year in the United States at the professional, college/university, church, community and secondary school levels. Administered by Hat City Music Theater, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Danbury, Connecticut, The American Prize was founded in 2009 and is awarded annually.
