Royal Palm Beach High School’s Marshall Riddle Signs with BJU Bruins

MarshallRiddleGREENVILLE, S.C. (May 29, 2014) — Royal Palm Beach High School’s Marshall Riddle, a 6’4” guard for the RPB Wildcats signed with the Bob Jones University Bruins men’s basketball team today.

During his senior year, Riddle averaged 12 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. Riddle also averaged just under 4 assists per game

He will be majoring in Sports Management this fall at BJU.

The BJU Bruins men’s basketball team competes as a Division I university in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).

Bob Jones University to Host Summer Camps

Come join us at Bob Jones University this summer for a wide variety of camps!

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 23, 2014) – Bob Jones University is accepting applications from students in grades 3 -12 for a variety of camps which will be held in June and July on the BJU campus. With options for day and overnight campers, BJU offers a number of sports camps including basketball, soccer, volleyball and running. Additionally, there are several academic-related camps including art & design, criminal justice, culinary arts, films, drama, music and Shakespeare.

One of the most unique camps offered is the Leadership Academy where participants engage in leadership training simulations and hands-on activities, evaluate case studies, build a strong team mindset and learn to approach problems from a biblical perspective. By the end of the week each camper will understand principles of communication, confidence and leadership.

Dr. Greg Mazak Speaks on “Marriage Myths”

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 21, 2014) – Dr. Greg Mazak recently spoke with nationally syndicated radio talk show host Janet Mefferd about five “marriage myths.” Dr. Mazak is a professor in the School of Religion at Bob Jones University.

Joel Neidig Awarded Second Prize in MTConnect Challenge 2

Neidig photoGREENVILLE, S.C. (May 19, 2014) – Joel Neidig, a 2005 Operations Management graduate of Bob Jones University, was recently awarded second prize in the MTConnect Challenge 2. He was selected by [MC]2 2014 MTConnect: Connecting Manufacturing Conference attendees.

Neidig, Technology Manager for ITAMCO in Plymouth, Indiana, was awarded $75,000 for providing a never before view into the manufacturing process by leveraging the capabilities of Google Glass with its heads-up display, camera, touchpad, microphone, email and internet connection built into the spectacle frame and combining it with MTConnect functionality.

According to the National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining, one of the organizers of the competition, Neidig’s Google Glass application not only liberated users from laptops and hand-held smart devices, but it enabled travel of the entire shop floor, gathering and sharing machine data provided by MTConnect, while accessing the internet on demand for more information.

MTConnect Challenge 2 participants were tasked with developing innovative and unique software applications using the MTConnect standard that could be easily adopted by manufacturing enterprises, especially lower tier producers, to enhance their manufacturing capabilities and support the Department of Defense (DoD) supply chain management objectives.

Neidig and his wife, Lindsey, are the parents of three young children.

BJU Grad’s Article Featured in Smithsonian Magazine

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 19, 2014) – Lincoln Mullen, who received his BA (2006) and MA (2008) in History from Bob Jones University, wrote an article entitled “These Maps Reveal How Slavery Expanded Across the United States” which appeared in The Smithsonian magazine.

Mullen, a PhD candidate at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, will serve as an assistant professor of  in the Department of History and Art History at George Mason University this fall.

 

Steve Pettit Elected Fifth President of Bob Jones University

Dr Steve PettitGREENVILLE, S.C. (May 8, 2014) – Larry Jackson, chairman of the Bob Jones University Board of Trustees, announced today the election of Steve Pettit as the fifth president of Bob Jones University effective May 10.

Pettit replaces Dr. Stephen Jones who, for health reasons, announced in December he would end his nine-year tenure as BJU’s president at the end of Commencement May 9.

“I’m overwhelmed by the opportunity to serve as BJU’s president,” said Pettit. “For decades, I’ve appreciated the ministry of BJU and the Jones family to me and my family. I truly desire to honor BJU’s heritage and continue—by God’s grace—to fulfillits mission. I particularly want to emphasize  the primacy of the local church, encourage relational discipleship among our students, faculty and staff, and continue the emphasis on academic excellence and living a godly life.”

“With his emphasis on discipleship and his extensive experience in working with college students, Steve is a natural choice for BJU president,” says Jackson. “He is committed to BJU’s biblical positions and educational quality, and we look forward to the leadership he will bring to the University.”

Pettit was raised in Columbia, South Carolina and earned his BS in Business Administration from The Citadel in 1978. He earned a MA in Pastoral Studies from BJU in 1980.

Prior to being elected BJU’s president, Pettit served as President of the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Association for 29 years. As president of the SPEA, he conducted over 800 campaigns throughout the United States and preached in over 21 countries. Additionally, Pettit serves as the national director for Cross Impact Ministries, a ministry which partners with local churches to minister on college campuses across the nation.

He has served for several years on the Bob Jones University Board of Trustees and also serves on the Board of the Central Africa Baptist College, Kitwe, Zambia.

Pettit is married to the former Terry Elkins of Denver, Colorado. They have four children: Rebecca, a filmmaker in Washington, D.C., Rachel, a paralegal in Washington, D.C., Stephen, a BJU senior and Michael, a rising high school senior.
