Greenville, S.C. (June 6, 2013) – Bob Jones University is entering the final phase of a multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation of the Dixon-McKenzie Dining Common.
This year’s renovation work began May 6 and is expected to be finished by mid-August. The total project will cost nearly $6 million.
Originally built in 1965, the dining common is one of the ten largest dining facilities in the country operating under one roof. The main dining room, known as the Varsity Room, is nearly the size of a football field. Once renovated, it will seat just over 1,100 at one time.
The renovations are being made to offer better variety of foods and healthier, fresher food options through an expanded deli, salad bar and international grill. Seating will serve small groups in a café–type seating arrangement to encourage student and student/faculty interaction.
ARAMARK is responsible for food service on the BJU campus. In addition to food service at the dining common, ARAMARK provides food service at an on-campus Chick fil A, Papa John’s Pizza, Brody’s Grill (Snack Shop), The Growl (Davis Field House) and Cuppa Jones (coffee shop).
Choate Construction Company of Charlotte, N.C. serves as general contractor for the project.
